Scienze del turismo ad indirizzo manageriale

Programme Coordinator: Prof. Sergio Beraldo

Programme Objectives

The Bachelor's Degree Programme in Tourism Sciences with a Managerial Focus (STIM), offered by the Department of Economic and Statistical Sciences (DISES) of the University of Naples "Federico II", combines educational activities aimed at developing economic and managerial skills with courses grounded in the solidity of classical and humanistic culture.

The programme aims to train professionals capable of fully understanding the complexity of tourism as a mass phenomenon. To this end, alongside the technical and IT skills required for managing tourism enterprises, the programme provides students with appropriate knowledge of: techniques for analysing tourist flows and the criteria governing their management in a way that preserves cultural and environmental heritage; the role that public institutions and private organisations, also acting jointly, can play in coordinating the tourism supply to promote local economic development.

Programme Structure

The Bachelor's Degree Programme in Tourism Sciences with a Managerial Focus has a three-year duration and benefits from a fruitful collaboration with the Department of Humanities of the University of Naples "Federico II". It aims to provide students with transversal knowledge enriched by contributions from economic, historical, geographical, legal, sociological and statistical disciplines.

The programme includes 17 examinations (some compulsory and others chosen freely by the student). The 180 ECTS credits required for graduation are distributed as follows: 65 ECTS in the first year, 60 in the second year and 55 in the third year (including 2 ECTS for additional educational activities and 3 ECTS for the final examination).

The productive integration of managerial culture and classical-humanistic culture represents the main strength of the degree programme. In relation to specific learning objectives, the programme also includes external activities, such as internships with public and private organisations in the tourism sector and study periods at foreign universities (Erasmus Programme).

New Feature: Study Plan Effective from Academic Year 2025–2026

Starting from the academic year 2025–2026, the Bachelor's Degree Programme in Tourism Sciences with a Managerial Focus (STIM) adopts a new study plan, designed to more coherently reflect the needs of the tourism sector and the ongoing transformations in the labour market. The new curriculum, developed in collaboration with industry stakeholders and professional associations, strengthens the educational offering in strategic areas such as economics, digital technologies and business management, while preserving the humanistic vocation that has always characterised the programme's identity.

Key innovations include: the introduction of courses specifically focused on the use of data and digital technologies for tourism management and promotion (such as Web Scraping and Big Data for Tourism, Data-Driven Regulation of Tourist Flows, Digital Marketing and Management of Tourism Enterprises); the reorganisation of quantitative subjects into an integrated framework; and the enhancement of the managerial dimension from the first year, through the introduction of a 15-ECTS course in Accounting and Financial Statements of Tourism Enterprises.

Compared to the previous study plan, the new educational structure ensures greater internal coherence, more clearly structured learning pathways and a stronger focus on the development of skills that are immediately applicable in the labour market.

In line with European priorities concerning the twin transition—digital and ecological—the programme equips students with advanced tools to address the challenges of sustainability and innovation through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates economic-managerial, technological and humanistic perspectives.

Further Studies

After completing the Bachelor's Degree in Tourism Sciences with a Managerial Focus, graduates may continue their studies by enrolling in a Master's Degree programme or a first-level Master's programme, aimed at further developing their skills in their chosen direction. These may include, for example, the use of artificial intelligence in the management of tourism enterprises, commercial strategies and tourism marketing, the organisation of tourist flows, and the management of archaeological, environmental and cultural heritage.
